Imrich Weiner-Kráľ (1901—1978) was painter and graphic artist. He studied architecture at the Technical High School in Brno, painting at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, and at art academes in Düsseldorf, Berlin, and Paris from 1919 to 1924. He stayed for sojourns at universities in Paris, Berlin, and at Bauhaus in Dessau from 1930 to 1932. After return from abroad, he lived in Bratislava from 1932 to 1939. Imrich Weiner-Kraľ forced the way of surrealistic tendencies in specific modification and original poetics on the borderline of dream and reality, without applying the method of automatism. By means of figurative motif and mythical countryside, using the rich metaphoric language and symbols, he creates mysterious poetic world of visions, as shown in the reproduced picture on this stamp. From 1939 to 1950, he lived in France where he joined the anti-fascist movement and accepted the surname Kraľ. After his return to Czechoslovakia, he lived in Prague and Povazska Bystrica, and from 1961 in Bratislava. Apart from the paintings he devoted himself to drawing, graphic art, illustrations, and writing.
