The town of Liptovský Mikuláš, centre of the Liptovský Mikuláš region, is situated in the Liptovská kotlina valley upon the river Váh 567 meters above sea level. It is surrounded by the West and Low Tatras and the mountains of Choč. The Royal Deed of Ladislav IV, in the year 1286, is the first known written record of the town. The church of St. Nicolaus, founding element of a larger settlement, was mentioned in records of 1299.
