Albín Brunovský (1935 Zohor - 1997 Bratislava) was national artist, Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava where he ran the department of book design from 1967 to 1990. He studied under Professor Vincent Hložník at the Academy of Fine Arts (1956 - 1961) and from the beginning of his artistic work he captivated many people with his drawing mastery and extraordinary rich imagination, shown in his lithography and etchings. We can find similar fanciful creativity in his illustrations, in more than 100 books. Albín Brunovský went through a long artistic development, from the subtle Mannerism, through the vital sensualism and morally-critical humanistic position, to the final period of highly spiritual creation. The graphics on this stamp were reproduced from this final period, using the recess engraving transcription. Apart from the graphic art and illustrations he devoted much to the ex-libris, graphic lay-outs of postage stamps and bank notes, as well as paintings on wood. He had over a hundred sole exhibitions in Europe, USA, and Japan. He was awarded with more than 20 prestigious international and domestic prizes.
