Tatra, which nowadays has no contemporary names other than the "Eight", was manufactured from 1936 - 1950. At that time its performance, the whole concept as well as its beautiful shape, dazzled the world then. Despite the fact that modern automobiles today have long overcome the model “Eight”, for decades this car has been fascinating motoring fans as well as artists, architects and those who can find harmony and beauty in technical art.
It is a typical example of high-tech industry and advanced pre-war Czechoslovakia and its arrival on the automotive market caused a stir not only by its classic flat-shaped stabilizing fins on the back of the hood, but also the characteristic three beams on the front mask, covered rear wheels and compact body shell.
Compared to the contemporary automotive world, this was a completely different concept. The vehicle had an eight-cylinder, air-cooled engine with a volume of 2,968 cm³ stored behind the rear axle, which thanks to its excellent features along with the aerodynamic bodywork was able to bestow speeds of up to160 km / h, consuming only 12.5 litres of petrol. It was designed for middle class users because, given the size and furnishing of the interior, it provided very comfortable travel.
A completely unique use of the vehicle was an expedition which touched the heart of perhaps every boy or man with a desire to learn about new and undiscovered places. Witnesses can recall the fascinating adventure of two engineers, Hanzelka and Zikmund, during their three-year journey through Africa and South America which they undertook in a Tatra 87 with its completely serial construction.

Overall, 3023 cars were produced which were exported to many countries of the world such as South Africa, Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, France, the Netherlands, Hungary, Germany, Austria, Romania, the Soviet Union and Sweden.
