© Slovak Post, 2007 On the territory of the Slovak Republic baroque architecture only developed fully after the defeat of the Turks and following the anti-Habsburg uprising in 1711. The revival of construction work was mainly driven by the Catholic Church, especially the religious orders, which began to build numerous churches and monasteries. In the mid-18th century Slovak baroque architecture was strongly influenced by the work of Austrian architect František Anton Pilgram.
