Dominik Skutecký was born in 1849 in Gajary. In 1859 Skutecký's family moved to Vienna. He has studied at the Creative Arts Academy in Vienna (1866). Later he got scholarship at the Academy in Venezia in Italy. In the foollowing years, he alternatively worked in Munich, Vienna, and Brno. In 1889 he settled down in Banska Bystrica, where he died in 1921. Dominik Skutecký's artistic works was an example of realistic, thematic genre painting.
