© Slovak Post, 2006 Semar is a character in the Wayang Golek traditional theatre. The Wayang puppet theatre has a very strong tradition not only in Java but also over the whole of Indonesia. It expresses the fight between good and evil. Semar, or Sang Hyang Ismoyo, is the older brother of the God Guru. The name Semara derives from the word sengsem (to lure) and Marsudi (to act, to search), so according to his name Semar prompts us to look for or carry out good things.
