The first written mention about Villa Sancti Martini came from the 1284. All districts of today's Martin are situated in the places of old settling, which the oldest part archaeologists place in order to the late Stone Age (about 2200 B.C.). The wealthy discoveries came from the Bronze Age. Popular tradition identified Hrádok in town part Košúty with ostensibly tomb of the Hunnic leader Attila (died in 435 A.C.) -up to now the named hill popular calls "Attilov hrob". Not well-founded.
