Veľľký Klíž - the municipality at the foot of the Tribeč mountain range, belongs to the district of Partizánske, and is made up of two local parts - Klíž and Kližske Hradište. The first written mention about the municipality is from 1230, even though its history is much older. The Benedictine abbey established between the years 1074 - 1077 had a turbulent history but it remained until 1562 in the municipality. Some other orders came here later.
