Its first steps in sporting activities were undertaken by the Ružomberok basketball club in the year 1941. At present, the hegemony of the SCP Ružomberok basketball club lasts for more then a decade, first under the federal - Czechoslovak and the under the Slovak baskets. The women's basketball players of "Ruža" basketball club have acquired the Czechoslovak champion title in the years 1990/1991, 1991/92 and 1992/93. These women's basketball players are the champions of the Slovak Republic continuously since its origination in 1993 and in 1999, the "Ruža" women's basketball club has won the Slovak Championship title or the 7th time in a row. In the international competition "Final 4" played in the 1992/93 season, the "Ruža" club has ranked fourth and in the 1995/96 and in 1996/97 season it has achieved the third rank. The "Ruža" club players have topped its successful story on international field by its 1999 victory in the Euro Basketball League and they are proud of having won the title of the European Women's Basketball Championship. The stage of the final match of the Euro Basketball League 2000 shall be, just due to their successful performance, the town of Ružomberok. The rose and the arrow which dominate the city, coat-of-arms could also become a symbol of womanlike beauty and sporting rapacity and assertiveness so typical for this basketball team, whole central personality is the coach Mrs. Natalia Hejková.
