In the valley of the Slaná river and between the spurs of Slovenské rudohorie mountains and the plains of the Slovenský kras (Slovak karst) there is located Rožňava - the town of famous traditions of mining industry, education and crafts, the seat of the bishop, administrative and cultural centre of the Gemer region.
