The mouflon (Ovis musimon) is a large, short-fleeced game animal with a characteristically ovine body. It is not indigenous to Slovakia, but was introduced from Corsica. The first to begin rearing mouflon here - in 1868 - was Count Forgach, on his estate at Jelenec (formerly Gýmeš) in the Tribeč hills. This precedent was followed up repeatedly over time, with mouflon migrating to more distant localities and hunting grounds which offered favourable conditions.
