In almost a century of existence, Slovak Shipyards at Komárno have produced around 1, 500 vessels. Currently in production are three types of cargo ship of the new Rýn, EMS and Rostock generation. The subject of the 5-Crown stamp is a cargo ship of the EMS type leaving the docks. The background features a silhuette of Komárno with its historical landmarks and more recent townscape. The 8-Crown stamp depicts a cargo ship of the Rhein type. Vessels of this type are used not only for river transport, but also operate on the open seas. The FDC features the prow of the ship Kriváň. The upper part of the prow bears the coat of arms of Komárno, where the ship was built. In the bottom left-hand corner is a map of the city from the year 1898, the year in which the first shipbuilding yards were built. The outline map shows the confluence of the Rivers Nitra and Váh with the Danube.
